Our New House

It was brought to my attention that we haven’t updated our Blog since 2013. Since we have become stagnant and haven’t really traveled for a while I didn’t have much of interest to post. Not that our life isn’t interesting, there just isn’t much RV Travel going on.

Well recently we have turned another page in our lives. We decided since we like our lifestyle so much that buying a house wasn’t in our plans. However we have pretty much outgrown the RV so…

We bought a Park Model home in the same resort where we have lived for the last 11 years in the motor home. If you are not familiar with a Park Model, it is a small 400 square foot manufactured home. Ours however is a bit more than a simple park model. First off ours is set in the ground so it is ground level, then a 200 square foot addition was added making it 600 square foot overall and the whole thing is stuccoed and the roof is tiled. There is also a 117 square foot building on the property, which serves as a laundry room and a shop. This building is attached to the house by a covered patio with outdoor kitchen. Along with the real residential appliances they topped it off with an air conditioner that can turn the house into a meat locker in the 120-degree Arizona summers. You can see more photos by clicking on the link in the left column.

I have added a link to the photos of our house HERE.

So, although we are keeping the motor home, it looks like we are not Fulltimers anymore.

Best wishes to all our readers and I hope your travels are as enjoyable as ours.

I will leave the Blog up because I know others enjoy reading about our travels.

What just happened

The night before last I was looking at my DirecTV account on line. I noticed that, since I have been a good customer, I am eligible for a free receiver. Perfect I thought since our present receiver is giving us troubles. So I called to make sure it is in fact free and there will be no shipping fees, setup fees, extra monthly fees, or other hidden fees. I was assured it is in fact free and there will be no hidden or added fees. I said, Thanks I will order one online. Tonight I went online to order and it now shows it is not free and in fact it is $69.00. So I called again to ask what happened to free. They say it was never free. I argued enough that they transferred me to “Programming”. They also said it was not free but it is $49.00. I said I was looking at it online and it says $69.00. They said they could send it to me for $19.00. I said I would not pay for it since it was free the other night. Then he says he can send it to me for free with $10.00 off my next 6 bills. I said, “What”! He then asks if I also want Stars free for the next 3 months. I said, “Why wouldn’t I”. He said, “OK you will be receiving the free receiver in 2 days and $10.00 off your next 6 bills and Stars free for 3 months”…What just happened?

The State of Washington is suing Direct TV for deceptive advertising. Be very careful and watch your bill. I'm sure you won't receive your $10 off credit and they'll charge you for Stars

It seems that you are a shrewd negotiator.

  5. squawmama, I always know I am in for some fun when I call DirecTV. I called them to activate a box for our Casita Patio TV last month and actually talked to someone intelligent and spoke English.

Tom, I hear ya man. But I am on to their game. Besides, we scanned through the new movie channels last night and found nothing worth watching so I will be canceling right after the free months.

Hotel Cal, The funny thing is I negotiated nothing. They just kept handing me more and more. I heard that if you try to cancel your service they will attempt to keep you by giving you just about everything they got.

  6. Laura, I will keep an eye on that. I did go to my account last night after talking to them and saw where they had already posted the changes and it was all free.
